When I was 6 months old, I was diagnosed with a life threatening food allergy. This was really hard on my parents. They were first time parents and found out that their daughter was allergic to dairy. They were really scared, but eventually they found out how to help me and make sure I don't have a serious reaction. When I was younger, I didn’t really understand my food allergy and I didn’t really care because I was so young. I just went on with my life like I was a normal kid and I didn’t think anything of it when I had to bring my own lunch to school.
As I got older my food allergy got worse. I was way more allergic to dairy than I ever was before. I started to learn how to use an epipen and how to keep myself safe incase of an emergency. When I was in third grade, I found out that I was going to have to move schools because mine closed. I was really nervous about telling the teachers about my food allergy because in my old school everyone knew about it, but I had no choice. In fourth grade, I moved to my new school and everyone was really nice and understanding about my food allergy. I had a great year and I wasn't so worried about my food allergy anymore.
In 5th grade, I thought the kids in my class were going to be understanding about my food allergy again like they were in 4th grade. I was really wrong. Everyday when I came to school I was bullied about it and many of the kids said it was a hassle to take care of. I continued to be bullied everyday and my confidence went down a lot during that time. My parents decided that it would be a great idea to move schools, so that I didn’t have to deal with that every day. At that point I agreed to the idea because I was upset everyday and my teachers weren’t believing me about it. We decided to move to my current school. I was really nervous about this because I didn't want kids to make fun of me again about my food allergy because I was really sad when it happened in my old school. I didn’t even want to go to school and I usually love school.
When we looked at the school I attend now, I knew this was the right place for me. I loved everything about it. I started my new school in sixth grade and all of the students were so nice and welcoming. I made friends right away and even though I told them about my food allergy, it didn't really matter to them. They all made sure to keep me safe and not to share food. I knew I made the right choice. My school was right for me. In 7th grade I was so excited to come back because everyone was so nice and caring. I stayed with my friends and made some new ones along the way. It was a great year and I finally didn’t have to worry about anything. The one thing I had to remember is to have fun and not to worry about the bad things because the whole year was great.
Now I am in 8th grade and I have had no problems with my food allergy. I have had a great year so far and I am so excited to graduate.
